ADELE has returned to the music chart’s with STYLE. The British pop star’s new single “Hello” not only debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it set a mark for the recording industry in the digital age. Adele has broken chart records in the U.K. in another sign of even bigger commercial success to come. “Hello” has shot to the top of the charts in the singer’s home country, pushing aside other same-day releases this week, such as Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.”
“Hello” – her first video since 2011 – set a new record for Vivo, the top music video platform, racking up 27.7 million views in its first 24 hours. That knocks Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” which had 20.1 million views in its first 24 hours in May, out of the top spot.
Adele says her new album will be a “makeup” compilation, after the “breakup” on her last, 21. Even so, the new single has its share of heartbreak (“they say time’s supposed to heal ya… but I ain’t done much healing”) and it comes with a moody sepia video which starts with the star in a windy, rainswept field having mobile phone problems.
